Dear Friends,

We hope you are getting some time that feels like summer. We are continuing to think about how we can make changes in the world large and small. For July, we are focusing on engaging in daily habits that focus on anti-racist action and and finding moments of joy amid the busyness.

One of our guides in these practices is BJ Fogg, author of Tiny Habits: The Small Changes that Change Everything. Tiny Habits has been selected as one of the Best Business and Leadership Book of 2020 so far. BJ is the world’s leading expert on habit formation. He shows us how we can change any aspect of our lives—whether it’s how we interact with others, our health, careers, or our relationships—by starting small.

The first step, BJ says, is to stop judging ourselves. Criticizing ourselves for not having done enough or for stopping something we started, actually only reinforces inaction. Instead, we can embrace mistakes as discoveries and use them to move forward.

The second step is to start tiny. To do this, you need to take an aspiration and break it down into tiny behaviors. To help figure out where to begin, we are sharing below seven tiny clips from Tiny Habits. These clips are a great introduction to the science of habit.

We hope this summer proves to be a transformative time for you and the world. As always, we’d love to hear how you are doing and please forward this newsletter to anyone you think would find it helpful.

Sincerely,

Doug, Lara, Rachel, & the whole Idea Architects Team
